Description: The Science Museum was founded in 1857 with objects shown at the Great Exhibition, and was once part of what is now the Victoria and Albert Museum. Officially segregating itself in 1909, it is now home to around 300,000 items including the first jet engine, Stephenson's 'Rocket', and the Apollo 10 command module. It is also home to an IMAX 3D cinema, showing science and nature documentaries, plus dedicated spaces for biosciences and clinical medicine. The museum occasionally holds "Science Nights" where children and their parents can sleep overnight in the museum. The Science Museum has been free to the public since December 2001, with admission only being charged for special events.
